This was passed on to one of our members - Great opportunities here!
Beginning this year, the Laurasian Institution will bring a select group of pre-collegiate students from China to be high school exchange students in the United States through our C-corps, Jr. China program. The mission of this exchange program is to build greater mutual understanding of the cultures of the United States and China between American and Chinese participants in the high school community. We are looking for suitable host families for these students from China.
We would like to encourage those who have adopted Chinese children to consider hosting these exchange students. Many of you are seeking ways to connect your children with their heritage in a meaningful manner and this is a possible way.

HELP ORPHANAGES IN CHINA - Time's China Blog
Last fall we mentioned a non-profit group, Our Chinese Daughters Foundation,http://ocdf.org that helps orphanages in China. The harsh winter is making conditions in China's orphanages increasingly difficult, and they have sent out a new appeal for help. I've posted the request below:
Friends,
We have all seen the news reporting the terrible weather in south and
central China. Snow and ice storms have been ravishing the regions of the
country where a tepid weather is the norm. Orphanages, which are always next
to last to receive disaster relief, are facing especially hard times.
Problems include power outages, lack of food, clean water, coal, quilts and
warm clothes. Moreover, latest reports state that this weather is likely to
continue for another 10 days.
The situation is critical. Many orphanages have not received any aid, and
will get no relief other that what we provide. Resources are scarce; costs
of basic necessities like food and coal, are doubling or even tripling. The
transportation system, already choked with holiday travel, is being pushed
further into chaos because of canceled trains and snowed in train tracks.
Because of this, we cannot ship blankets or food directly and have them
arrive in time to help.
What can you do to help? OCDF is accepting financial donations to give to
institutions who are in most need. Please contact our office 8403-4979 or
steven@ocdf.org TODAY to help. We can send a car to accept cash, wire
transfers will take one day to process or credit card donations. We will
continue funding the costs of basic goods until the money runs out.
This is a time sensitive request! These children need our help now! Please
make your donations today!

Help Needed for Survey on Boys from China
help needed for survey on boys from China
Posted by: elisa_rosman at elisa_rosman@yahoo.com
Hi all-
Apologies to those of you have seen this message on other groups and
already responded! I am mom to 3, one bio girl, one China
girl, and one China boy. I am also a consultant in the area of early
childhood policies and development. While most of my work has been
on kids with special needs and high risk kids, I have decided to
bring my work a little closer to home and do some adoption research.
I am working with Dr. Tony Tan and Dr. Mary Beth Bruder. Many of you
may have already completed a survey for Dr. Tan as part of his
longitudinal study or are familiar with Dr. Bruder's survey. My work
is different in that it will focus on boys from China. How many of
us have read things about China girls and thought, "Well, what about
my son?!?"
I am interested in finding out things like how parents
perceive the challenges of adopting a boy from China, parents'
reaction to receiving a referral of a boy and, since many boys are
from the Waiting Child program, finding out about their special
needs. I am trying to get as many parents as possible with boys from
China to complete a short survey. If you are interested, please e-
mail me at elisa_rosman@ yahoo.com, and I will e-mail you the survey.
Please feel free to cross-post.
Many thanks!
